Matt Friedman reflects upon the breadth and range of human slavery in the world today and how we can all play our part in helping to address this global problem.
Mr. Friedman is an international human trafficking expert with over 20 years of experience as an activist, program de- signer, evaluator, and manager. He is currently the Regional Project Manager of the United Nations Inter-Agency Project on Human Trafficking (UNIAP) in Bangkok, Thailand. This project represents an inter-agency coordinating body that links the United Nations system with governments and civil society groups in six countries: China, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. Prior to this, Mr. Fried- man worked for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for over 17 years. During this period, he designed and managed both country and regional human trafficking programs, helped to establish a counter- trafficking regional training center, and participated in resource mobilization and production of two award-winning international films on the subject. Mr. Friedman is also the co-founder of the Mekong Club, which represents a collection of private sector businessmen and women who have come together to fight human trafficking out of Hong Kong. Mr. Friedman is the author of nine books on a wide variety of subjects, including fiction, philosophy, and subjects.
